Old Sweater to New Infinity Scarf

This project took less than five minutes.  You read right, less than FIVE!

Take an old shirt or sweater and measure around 11.5 inches from the bottom.  Cut a straight line and you are done.  That is all there is to it.

ZERO DOLLARS!

I am currently wishing I had more sweaters to cut up.

Shower the Bride Décor

I recently hosted a bridal shower for my cousin who is getting married in October.  I am happy to say I really enjoyed the craft projects this party allowed me to create.  Of course I could have just purchased the bridal décor from the store but that would have taken away half the fun of being a host.
Take a look at the final product…

Flower Spheres
To make the flower sphere it only takes fake flowers and a foam ball.  The bigger the flowers the bigger the sphere will turn out.  I used the same size foam ball for each but the two circles ended up being different sizes. You can us wire cutters to cut the stems off.  I left about 1 to 1 ½ inches of stem so that the flower would stay well in the foam ball. To hang them from my chandelier I tied twine around a nail and pushed it into the foam.
Twine Ball
I like to keep most décor groups in odd numbers so to balance out the two flower spheres I made a twine ball.  This was a little messy but easy to do.  I blew up a small balloon and then wrapped twine around it. Other tutorials I have read said to dip the twin in the glue before wrapping the balloon.  To make it less messy I brushed the sticky substance (I mixed mod podge and water) on after the twine was around the balloon. I made sure the twine was soaked before letting it dry.  I was very pleased with the outcome.

Bride's Initials
I think my favorite decoration was the bride’s new initials.  I placed these on the fire place mantel above her chair.  I thought this was a great décor option that the bride could then take home and use.  I found the chevron image online and cut out one chevron line and used that as my stencil before painting.  I loved the outcome and have added painting my initials to my craft to-do list for the house.

Message Board Frame
To make the message board frame I found this really cute frame at Hobby Lobby.  I took burlap and put it in the frame behind the glass.  Voila you have a message board.  Cute, easy and fun to use!

I couldn’t have been happier with the way things turned out! Best of all many of the things I made can be reused for other projects or decorating.
I hope you can use some of these ideas for your own parties.

Wreath it Up!

I have been seeing so many beautiful wreaths posted on Pinterest so I decided to get into the game.  The best part about this DIY Twig Wreath is that you can decorate it for whichever season you are in.  I happened to make this wreath with my mom in the summer. We found green vines and pretty paper flowers on sale at Hobby Lobby for .64 cents each! That is some crazy savings right there if you are on a budget.

To get started, buy a twig wreath at your local craft store.  I found mine at Hobby Lobby for $4.99 and then used a 40% off coupon bringing the total to $2.99. They come in all shapes and sizes but I chose a medium size circle. And if you are like me you will understand when I pulled, what seemed to be, all of them down to find the perrrrfect circle.  Good thing it was my mom with me and not my husbandJ.

Now for the fun part!  We picked out our flowers.  Our trip started out a little disappointing because that week at Hobby Lobby flowers were not on sale, bummer. We sighed at the thought of actually having to buy something for full price but picked out our flowers and exited the flower section. Thank goodness the story didn’t end there.  Before checking out we strolled down the clearance aisle.  And there they were, beautiful summer looking paper flowers for just pennies. Let’s just say we didn’t mind walking all the way back across the store to return the full priced flowers to their resting place.

Our final stop was to pick out our wood initials to give the wreaths that charm I love.

Here are some other supplies you may need to complete the project if you would like to make one for yourself: paint brushes, paint, glue gun, clear spray paint (if you want your painted wood to have a pretty gloss coat) and wire cutters.

The only thing you have to do other than paint your letter, if you choose to add that feature, is to cut the flower stems, place the flowers on the wreath and glue them down.  It is just that simple.

My finished product!

The best part is that I got to spend some fun quality time with my mom. She enjoyed the project so much she ended up making another wreath for her back door.
